About me

Ruth Maayani is an alumnus of the Juilliard School of Music in New York, where she studied with Marcel Grandjany. She was the principal harpist with the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon-Lezion, also the orchestra of the Israeli Opera Tel-Aviv Yafo,  from 1989 to her retirement in 2011.

She performed with countless chamber groups and larger ensembles throughout Israel, covering virtually the entire standard repertoire for the harp in any given orchestration.

She also premiered many Israeli works, many of which by her brother Ami Maayani.

Ruth performed as soloist with various orchestras and recorded 9 CDs.

Between 1988-2014 Ruth was the harp professor at the Samuel Rubin Academy of Music, now the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University, leading also a Masters degree program in Harp Methodology.

Since her retirement Ruth has been teaching harp to blind and visually impaired children in "Sulamot-Music for Social Change", a project of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Tel Aviv University.
